How Do I Become A NICE Canine Behaviour Technician - Full Member?
Upgrading from Professional Membership to full Canine Behaviour Technician membership, requires members to provide evidence of an ABTC approved course or APEL pass, and to pass the NICE full member practical exam at this level.
Practical skills will be assessed through the submission of two case studies. Each case study must cover a complete dog behaviour case. For each case study, you must evidence your practical skills through written paperwork and videos of you working with the handler and their dog or just the dog where relevant.
The included case study guidance and assessor criteria will assist and inform you of the standards required for your case study evidence. When gathering your evidence for formal assessment, you must follow the case study guidance and incorporate as much of your theoretical learning and practical skills as possible into each study.
When you are ready to submit your case study evidence, your work will be reviewed by two NICE assessors, and feedback provided within fourteen working days.
Members who have successfully covered the theory and practical skills criteria will be invited to join NICE as a full member at level five. Full membership includes a placement on the ABTC register as an approved dog behaviour technician.
In the event that case studies do not meet the specified criteria, a formal interview may take place you may be asked to provide evidence for the missing criteria.
The pass mark for case studies is 60%. If your case studies do not meet this threshold you will be supported within reason to pass the assessment through interview.
Level 5 Canine Behaviour Technician - Examination of Practical Skills
The Level 5 Canine Behaviour Technician Exam of Practical Skills is only applicable to NICE Professional Members. Successful completion of this exam - and presentation of required evidence of APEL or ABTC approved course - satisfies the criteria to apply for a NICE Canine Behaviour Technician Full Membership.
